5 Things you need to know Before you Watch Loki

Tomorrow the first episode of the new Disney Plus show “Loki” will be dropping. Loki, being the beloved Marvel character he is, has been a highly anticipated show for the past couple of years, and after a long wait and delays brought to you by the pandemic, it is finally here. Now Loki has been in the MCU for 10 years, and therefore, has a great deal of history within it. This will be the first time the spotlight has belonged to him, but there have been many events in Loki’s past that may be important to the story or at least referenced to. So, here are a few things to keep in mind going into the show tomorrow.

#1 Loki was mind-controlled

In the first Avengers movie, Loki came to earth with the Mind Stone, gifted to him by the Other and Thanos. This stone allowed Loki to control the minds of others, including Hawkeye. However, it has been confirmed by Loki’s biography that he himself was influenced by the Mind Stone by Thanos. “Gifted with a Scepter that acted as a mind control device, Loki would be able to influence others. Unbeknownst to him, the Scepter was also influencing him, fueling his hatred over his brother Thor and the inhabitants of Earth.” This is a quote from Marvel.com’s biography for Loki. Therefore, it is no longer a fan theory but a confirmed fact that Loki was under Thanos’ control when he attacked Earth in The Avengers.

#2 This is not our Loki

Looking back to Endgame, we need to remember that this is a Loki from a different timeline than the Loki who died in Infinity War. Meaning that any growth or development we have seen between Avengers and Infinity War has not happened. One of the biggest of these is the relationship Between him and Thor. In Endgame’s timeline, Loki and Thor are brothers again and have fought side by side in both “Thor: The Dark World” and “Thor: Ragnorok.” However, if Thor returns in the Disney Plus show, it will not be on good terms.

#3 Possible Cap Cameo

This is purely speculation, but we should consider the possibility of Steve Rodgers making an appearance on the show. I say this because we know that Cap will be returning to that timeline to return the Mind Stone and the Time Stone to that period. The Avengers left that timeline in a complete mess, which is something The Ancient One may not be overly pleased about. The timeline being broken by the absence of that universes Infinity Stones was already a concern for her. It will clearly have something to do with the plot if the trailers are any indication. So, she may recruit Steve to help fix the mess he helped create by not only bringing back the Mind and Time Stones but by retrieving the Space Stone as well. But, what we do know for sure is that whether we see him in Loki or not, Cap will return to that timeline, and he will likely speak with The Ancient One.

#4 The Avengers are looking for him

It would be naive to think that after Loki escapes the Avenger’s custody, they will forget about it and move on; they will be searching for him. If not the entire team, Thor will be on the lookout for his missing brother and the Tessaract. Though it may not be a huge plot point, I am certain it will affect the story or at least an episode.

#5 Ancient One’s connections

The Ancient One would likely keep a similar collection of potential threats like Doctor Strange possessed; She may have even written the one he had. However, she may have had one for potential allies as well. So it would not be unreasonable to think that she and the Time Keepers might know each other, at least by reputation, especially when we remember that she possessed the Time Stone. It would make sense that they would keep tabs on something that Wong literally said could break the flow of time.

I’m sure you are all looking forward to the Loki series just as much as I am! Hopefully, I've provided something you either didn't know or had forgotten about. I also couldn't help but throw a few of my personal theories in there. But I will see you all there tomorrow when we get our first taste of the show.
